"Population" for india is one of the biggest or only the biggest problem. Today many problems in india are directly or indirectly related to increasing population.

So, how could we control our populaion?

I think the best solution would be this..

There should be a law imposed that "Every couple can have not more than two childrens whether or not both are girls or both are boys. If any couple violates this law they both should be charged an penalty of some money as well as an imprisonment of 5-10 years or some really horrible punishment"

Again to avoid this there should be some regular verification of number of childrens per couple after regular interval of 5 years

You have asked a great question.

I like your two kids per family suggestion; but what exactly do you mean by "every couple"? In the coming years, I am guessing that we are likely to witness more broken relationships. So, what happens in that case?

I initially thought of having a disincentive scheme for parents with more than two children. But the problem with disincentive schemes is that they need to be fair to everyone. So, if you come up with an economic basis for disincentivization, people at the bottom of the pyramid will suffer unfairly.

Perhaps a better solution would be to use our understanding of genes to mandate parents to produce atmost two designer children - one boy and one girl. Parents may be given a choice in the order of reproduction of the offspring. Later, if the situation arises that we need to restrict one kid per parent or if parents are voluntarily restricting themselves to one boy alone, we can resort to a lottery scheme to assign gender.

What say?

yaa, disincentivization is unfair for some people.

In case of broken relationships, after re-marriage(if any), there should be a law that if any of the spouse thereafter had two kids with his/her former spouse, then he/she can only reproduce one kid with the new spouse.

And also for senior citizens who dont have any son (only daughters), they should be given some extra financial benefits in day-to-day expenses. This could reduce the fear in parents to reproduce girls.
