By now I’m sure everyone knows the origins of this tradition. Whether it is the vestiges of a pagan ritual or a tribute to the Saint Valentine, it’s all about love.
Love has evolved much over the last few decades. Gone are the days of swooning when Donne's romantically declaimed that his luve is like a red red rose. Then, love was grand. Nowadays I'm told, divorce is 100 grand.
And yet, love is all around us. Everyone has experienced it, if not expressed it. So, this Valentine's day, make it a point to express yourself. Whether it is to family, friends, boss or neighbour. Neighbour? you say. Well, why not? Remember the camaraderie of yore. When you actually knew your neighbours? Why not revive that and say hello to your neighbour. Who knows it might be the start of a wonderful relationship.
Finally, many of my friends have decided to take the plunge this season. Here's a bit of advice to them. The four most important words in any marriage is "I'll do the dishes".

February is a beautiful month. It hovers between winter and spring with the grace and ease of a practiced dancer. Small wonder that the memories of old flames melt away and new loves spring to life. In Pune Valentine’s day is a bit of a no-go due to political propaganda infringing upon civilian life. Yet there are a few low key places to enjoy yourselves be you single or in a relationship. Skip the CCDs and Baristas and treat yourselves to a roadside milkshake like your parents used to at The Poona Coffee Hut Singles with the blues can be pampered for a small fee at Shades and Shadows or have themselves primped for a romantic rendezvous at though raking up a slightly steeper bill at Beauty Spot Moody blues? Chill out with a bunch of friends and a pint or four at Pune’s very own sports bar.

There’s something for everyone, so enjoy this fabulous month!
