Haven't read too many books; but here are my top favourites.
1. The Alchemist by Coelho for its philosophical undertones 2. The Mating Game by Wodehouse for its humour 3. Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini for its useful fundas 4. The Children's Knowledge Bank (used to have 6 parts) for the general knowledge I picked up when I was a kid.

My preferred book genre is fiction (action/suspense/thriller), I read books mainly for entertainment. The books I feel I would remember always:
1. Albert Camus' Plague - I have been trying to complete it but its a very heavy 200 pager. It is an amazing piece of work on mind and attitude at a time of unsurmountable adversity. 2. Pier Paul Reid's Alive - The greatest true story of survival ever. 3. Harry Potter series - After Enid Blyton, I find JK Rowling as the only author who can describe things so clearly that she makes it seem real but also makes you imagine exactly what she wants you to. 4. Mario Puzo's The Godfather - Puzo makes you believe that even ganglords are humans and very philosophical humans at that.
Special mention Samuel Langhorne Clemens pen name Mark Twain's Compilation of Short Story and Essays, his sense of humour is legendary.

Very difficult to choose just 4 books :( But i can't resist answering anyway. I love humour, so PG wodehouse and Terry Prachett are favs. Or rather used to be, I think I've read almost all. Then,
The little prince - Antoine de St. Exupery The hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy (all 4 parts of the trilogy!) - Douglas Adams The Ludlum action-packed thrillers Currently reading Kafka on the Shore by Jap author Murakami - enjoying it v much.
