Well as the name itself suggests Ghora...Horse...gully...must be it's bangla sound...could it be Horse neighing in the gully...which perhaps was misinterpreted as a Band? And Mohiner is perhaps the Cheerleader?

Or it could be a gun ( ghora means gun in Mumbai )shooting the horse which was neighing disturbingly in the gully!

Come on ....you don't have to kill the poor horse just coz it was neighing.....probably he must have seen a mare....and the thought of he being tied up....poor chap...and even if you do kill it beware of PETA....before you know they'll be standing nude outside.

Yeah Mild it sure is a Wild Idea......I dunno why but mild's ideas are wild for sure.....if the PETA come and stand nude in the gully then all the horses in the neighbourhood and in chat room too would be neighing....and it will be followed by necking....STOP....it must be giving wild Ideas to others....Dr.A.C. can have the full quota of KISS-a-Horse ka.

By the way is this Mohiner Ghoragully related to our Saurav Gangully....coz both have gullies in their name...Saurav was a bully on field for which he paid the price...what about Mohiner...? From a few friends I have who belong to Bengal.....Mahimer Ghoragully is perhaps the name of an Album or may be "Durga Stuti" which is sung during the Durga Pooja...am I right Daits?

Okay, I'll tell u what it is. It is the name of a bengali rock band which specialized in experimental music and which was the fore runner of modern Bengali bands like cactus, bhoomi etc. One of their songs was lifted and copied as 'bheegi bheegi ' by Pritam in 'gangster'. The band is no more now. Can't blame as u don't seem to be from Calcutta.

Prodyut,
These guys miss the excitement of cheering for their own band, as they dont have any. So they will not understand. I am an avid fan of Cactus, Bhoomi, Paroshpathor, Chandrobindu, fossils, mohiner ghoraguli..... oh the list is endless. I really pity these guys. Some of the band members also sung the songs of Jannat. Like Raza Mazumdar and Rupam Islam. I was looking for someone to talk about these bands. Thanks for starting the conversation.

The Band's founding members , Chatterjees ( Monida, Bulada,Bishu ) happen to be my close relatives and I have followed them right since 1970. I remember we used to have jam sessions in their house itself and passers by would pass unwarranted comments. The songs and the tunes were not in sync with what was prevailing then. But Monida used to tell us 20 years down the line, people would remember them. He is no more today, but how true were his predictions! All of us had our first show in 1975 at Rabindra Sadan and we used to sell the concert tickets to whoever we knew. Those were the days!
Monida's son, Gaurab and my brother's son, Sanket who are part of Lakhhichhara are carrying their legacy.

Hey!! I have been a great fan of Chandrabindu. Check out the songs of Antahin (starring Rahul Bose & Sharmilla Tagore). Chandrabindu has done the whole score for them.

But I had heard that the band has broken up. Thats true or just a rumour??

Been outta Kolkata for 5 whole years. So I'm the probashi Chatterjee Bong.

Hey I'm back! Been out for a while on a trip.Hey Prodyut I owe you an apology for the pranks earlier on.Yup,I'm not a bong so I wasn't aware of the Band either but I was following Euphoria and Indian Ocean and some other bands like Agni etc.Mohiner was a novelty for me.Thanks for updating us and Hey...Wish your Brother's Son (Sanket) All the very Best for Success in forging a new brand of rocking band.God bless Monida's Soul and give new vigour and purpose to his son to carry on the legacy...some people are born gifted.

Yup Prodyut, you did mention it I can see. This list which I have pasted contains not just plagiarism of Mohiner Ghoraguly but many other International bands of Indonesia,Malaysia etc.My cousin was in Thailand and the local dialect there for folk songs is called "Bayla" and a youngster who soared to popularity through street singing and was noticed and made her bollywood debut which became a run away success and was on every one's lips was"Dhoom macha le..." in English version by the now teenager-Tata Young.Being a lover of yesteryear English/International Music I do keep track of happenings in the field and have some friends working in Music Industry in Mumbai who keep enhancing my knowledge.
