I have been using Tata Sky for 6 months now. I am very impressed with the picture quality and service. The picture is DVD quality as advertised, signal strength always super, and finally have my freedom from cable monopoly which chose which channels I should see. I have not experienced a single minute outage till now.
But I was wondering how does Tata Sky compare to DishTV in the DTH segment?

DishTV doesnt have as many channels as Tata Sky has. That way Tata Sky is good.
I am actually looking forward to the entry of big players SUN & Reliance. Reliance always made its presence felt in every segment and Mr Ambani has already announced that they would show market the prices which people would have only dreamt.

Reliance is all to well known for making you dream! Remember the dream of the mobile service it showed the millions. Every other person who has a reliance connection has something to crib about. Remember the dream of the reliance petrol pumps? Just check their prices out. Most of them seem to be on the verge of closing down. Remember the dream of reliance fresh stores?? Just check the prices out against the quality offered.
As for SUN i am not sure. However the quality of the shows on SUN are pathetic. I don't know what to expect from their DTH service. I have been a Tata SKY owner for over a year now. Before i purchased TATA sky i was actually looking for DISH TV. After calling them up 4 times, their sales team did not even bother to call me back and offer me their services. I am only too happy that they never came back to me. Tata Sky on the other hand - purchased and installed in 2 hrs flat. can you believe that?. Paying for their subscription is so damn easy. Calling them,or ordering services can be done via internet, phone or mobile. Having partnered with SKY, they have the latest technology available and it is excellent service!
I will be really happy with Reliance and Sun coming in. It could bring down prices. But i doubt they will match the quality and customer service of Tata Sky. So for now all you folks there thinking of DTH - If you want to Jingalala, don't wish Dish!

I heard somewhere that Tata Sky has a rule that they not install a dish till they find a place that gives atleast 80% signal strength, which gives Tata Sky its stunning picture quality. Comparatively, Dish TV is installed even at 50% signal strength. Not sure if its true but explains explains the Tata Sky clarity.
The only complain I have with Tata Sky is that the remote sensitiveness is a bit on the slower side.

I have been using tata-sky for almost more than a year. Its really good except for one thing.
You start-up with a certain scheme which includes all channels then they tell you you have to pay this and that for lifestyle-package and sports package and blah-blah!!
Thats not done!!

DishTV service is the worst service I have ever seen in Bangalore. In spite of calling the customer care & telling that the connection between the setup box & the cable wire is cut off also they will ask several Questions. They will say " Sir sorry Sir, sorry for keeping u on hold. Are you in front of TV setup box. What is the error it's giving Sir. that problem will be because there is not proper signal sir." & all those crap. I have already said the problem is physical. still that guys wont under stand. I guess they are trained like this. they give us 24 -48hrs of time & atleast by this time nobody turns up. Ok That is fine but not even after one week they turn up. Again after the 48hrs if we call up. they will ask for another 48hrs.
If we ask them the local support contact details, that also the call centre guys dont know, Idiots. I blame the management team. DishTV is the worst customer support in Bangalore & chennai that I have experienced.
GUYS, Before going for DISHTV & its SETUPBOX please think twice thrice....or google on any compliants on their service etc. While buying they will tell lots of good goody things. & Shahrukh spoils his name for giving an add for this DISHTV.
DISHTV SUCKS....

| Well Anand you are absolutely right. Reliance is much ado about nothing to put it short. Having subscribed for their internet services, I'm experiencing break of service every now & then even when I am regularly clearing their monthly; some non-sense abt exceeding limit & things like that. Reliance can't put faith in the customer for even as low a sum as 1500/- and that for no fault of the subscriber. Now that's Reliance for now. Hope they don't spoil the DTH sector by their nonsense promises!! TATA SKY is good. But the problem with them is they give so many channels which are not in the ambit of the package opted by the subscriber and what the subscriber wants is taken off. For example Tata Sky does not give Telugu DD channel Sapthagiri for want of TRP I believe. Now isn't this a lacunae? In AP Telugu channel not having TRP!! Can anyone believe it?

I have recently taken Reliance BIG TV, the biggest satellite TV in India with revolutionary MPEG-4 technology. Its been just 3 weeks and my experiences are nothing less than nightmare. I had taken the package of 2190 where 147 channels (including all pay channels like HBO, Z Studio, Ten Sports, Neo Sports, etc). I had confirmed and they said that any channel you name is free. I got it setup. As with any Reliance product, this was with problems which were okay till it was setup.
Day1: BigTV does not work. I call up customer care. Answer: It is raining. So it wont work.
Day3: BIGTV - most of the channels do not work. I call up customer care. Answer: Remove sim card. NOT WORKING. Remove all connections and put them together again. NOT WORKING. Do a reset to factory settings. WORKS. But favorites disappear. Customer care: wait for 48 hrs. It will appear.
Day6: BIGTV - most of the channels do not work. I call up customer care. Answer: Remove sim card. NOT WORKING. Remove all connections and put them together again. NOT WORKING. Do a reset to factory settings. WORKS. But favorites disappear. Customer care: wait for 48 hrs. It will appear.
Day 12: HBO, Z Studio and other sports channels not working. Message says I have not subscribed. Customer care: You are in the basic package. If you want HBO, pay 25 rs per month. When I enquired about the offer, they deny saying there was never any offer like that. I questioned why were these working for 11 days? They say it might have been some mistake. Now that your documents are verified, you plan is confirmed. I said there were other english movie channels which were always asking for subscription. I questioned why were these not coming for 11 days then? They did not have any answer.
NOW: I only get free channels. I got back my cable connection.

| Poor Pavan. I had warned a month back abt the "wonderful service " of Reliance and I had even added a word of caution about Big TV-quote " Hope they don't spoil the DTH sector by their nonsense promises!!. Despite this, our good friend Pavan has taken the Big TV connection and paying the penalty fpr it. Pavan "badon ka baath kabhi kabhi sun-na padega". Any way Pavan get rid of the Big TV connection out before it gets rid of you.

| thank god i am still with my good old local cable net work i have all the channels u guys mentioned for rs 100 a month and picture quality is excellent.one call for any complaints he comes flying .only thing 'just threaten him that iam changing to dth'

| Wow....Pavan..it is nothing but the wind....Whether it is Dish TV or Tata Sky or Reliance BIG...they all work on wind power....I mean satellite technology but whether they work or not is upto weather...rains..no entertainment, hurricane..hurry and get the dish down or else you'll blow your entertainment....all said and done the good old Cable Guys ( not the likeable Jim Carrey) of our areas...they've really mastered the art of feeding through Computer and I'm happy paying them just Rs.125/-per month to get HBO,Bindas,9X,Sun Tv and a horde of other 40-50 channels and if there is a match on Neo..you have the Neo coming On...so they are the real LEO's and bank on them more than you bank on Tata,Dish or Big..coz Tata is being thrown out of Singur,Dish is a Fish which needs clear water (weather) for survival and Big is nothing but a big hoax which Pavan has elucidated clearly.All the Best Cable Sufferers.....I mean Surfers...

| Still loving the TataSky experience. I recently re-located to my new apartment and needed to get my connection moved as well. Called up at 11:00 AM today for relocating, and by 4:00 PM, we had the pictures streaming in our new home. Amazing service considering today was supposed to be a holiday.
