| Lead Actors Carried the Movie |

I typically like romantic comedies, so when my friend suggested that I watch “Jab We Met”, I borrowed his VCDs and watched the movie yesterday. It did not disappoint me because of the lead actors’ characterization and performances. Though it is a predictable storyline, there were few flashes of creativity in story telling as well.
Basic plot: A young industrialist Aditya Kashyap (Shahid Kapur), whose professional and personal life is in shambles, gets a second life when he accidentally meets Geeth (Kareena Kapoor) a happy-go-lucky girl who just listens to her heart and does what she thinks is right without much forethought. Why and how their lives get intertwined and what happens to them is the storyline.
Characterization: There are two shades for Geeth’s characterization, in the first half the happy-go-lucky girl, who is a chatter box and in the second half a distressed girl who is living it tough because she elopes from her home to marry her lover (Anshuman) and gets dumped. Kareena suited the character of Geeth pretty well. Her expressions were bubbly when needed and subtle when the script demanded Aditya’s characterization goes through gloom to bloom because of the accidental meeting with Geeth. Shahid Kapur acted well as a guy who is in the pathos with the equal poise as the one who is charming.
I do not watch movies regularly. Even for me, the storyline is very predictable and but it is just the lead actors that make you watch the movie in one sitting. I must give credit to the editor and director who have managed to give a finished product that doesn’t have too many dull moments. Music by Pritam is good and picturization of the songs is even better.
In a movie with a predictable plot, the scenes I liked are Few scenes in Kareena’s train missing episode where Shahid and Kareena accidentally meet. Kareena hugs and kisses Shahid both times in similar situations to indirectly convey to her potential matches that she likes someone else.
The real life couple had a decent chemistry on screen, but I was expecting fireworks! Shahid reminds me a little bit of Shahrukh in his debut days. He also dances with the same energy levels as that of Shahrukh. Of course, Shahrukh was a trend setter and Shahid is nowhere near on that aspect as of now.
