| A Generation Awakening! |
When the trailers and promos of this film was screened in music and news channels, it created quite a ripple and the public seemed very apprehensive of this Aamir Khan starrer. Though it was applauded and appreciated by some, surprisingly it was not received positively by a large number of movie goers. The reasons however remain unknown.
Sue, a young and optimist British film maker steps on the Indian soil with the hope of making a documentary based on her late grandfather’s diary. The diary accounts the tale and heroism of the Indian revolutionaries and freedom fighters namely Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar Azaad and their other contemporaries. When she meets the fun loving gang of friends from the Delhi University, she catches glimpse of the revolutionaries in them and asks them to act in her documentary.
The group of friends includes the ever humourous and fun loving DJ (Aamir Khan), the reserved Karan (Siddharth), son of the rich industrialist Rajnath Singhania(Anupam Kher), Aslam (Kunal Kapoor), the poet and philosopher belonging to a middle class Muslim family, the innocent and vulnerable Sukhi (Sharman Joshi) and the sole girl of the group Sonia (Soha Ali Khan) who is in love with Ajay, the pilot (Madhavan) and Laxman Pandey, the fundamentalist and sole believer in the power of politics and its role in the development of the society.
This group of youngsters is a mirror of the youth today. They believe in living for the moment and are devoid of any feeling of responsibility or patriotism towards their nation. Till one day when Ajay becomes a victim of the conspiracies of the great and powerful political powers and loses his life and is also condemned as a traitor to the counter. This causes an awakening of the generation. The friends fight for the justice of their late friend and it takes them to the dark and dirty paths of corruption, dishonesty, betrayal, lies, bloodshed and death.
The performance of the cast and the music is really good. The change of mood the two phases of the movie brings about is done very affectively and causes the viewers to sit up and think. Its definitely worth the watch.
