No Jalsa in watching Jalsa
Sanjay Sahu is an orphan who works / studies in Economics division of Osmania University . When he is not in the university he is found boozing either at his friend's place or at poshest of the bars. Bhagyamathi (Ileana) falls in love with him but wants to go away from him once she knows certain things about his past. You will need to wait till the end to know if they marry or not.

We have a villian in Damodar Reddy (Mukesh Rishi). Scores of other actors from Prakash Raj to Ali to fill the remaining time. Th entertainment is provided by pawan kalyan, brahmanandam, sunil in the same order. The first half of the movie is ok with moments of fun spread across and as one expects that second half would more than make up for the first half. The second half hardly has few lighter moments provided by Brahmanandam and you watch rest of the movie hoping that there would be something that would turn around the things. Brahmanandam and the title song are the only saving grace of the second half.

There has been lot of hype around Jalsa. Stalwarts Trivikram and PK coming together in this Allu Aravind venture with Devisri providing rocking music contributed to this hype. With Megastar Chiranjeevi using all hyperboles to describe Jalsa at the audio function release, the expectations just touched the sky.

Pawan Kalyan seems to have lost track after the jolly ride from Tholi Prema to Khushi. These movies were good and Pawan Kalyan made them even more enjoyable with his eccentric style, be it in comedy or folk songs or satiric dialogues. I was a hardcore PK fan and it took me a Bangaram to get off the PK craze. PK seems to be still stuck in the Johnny debacle and he is lost since then. He has been trying unsuccessfully to find himself with every movie. The problem is that he has been trying too hard for something which actually came naturally to him. This reminds me of Big B in Bade Miya Chote Miyan trying to mimic apna Chi Chi in sheer desperation. Check his name Sanjay Sahu. Does it remind you of Sidhu Sidhartho Roy? So much to get a hit like Khushi?

Ileana has a bigger role compared to less than 5 minutes role of Kamilini or overall 15 mins footage of Parvati Melton. Mukesh Rishi is as usual with same expression through out. Of course he has mastered it over all the faction movies and he maintains the expression well. Prakash Raj is ok in his short role. Tanikella Bharani continuing his Naidu (Athadu) style getup and slang is ok. Brahmanandam is good as usual and has you in splits, even during titles after the climax. Ali, Uthej & others have little to do in the movie.

Jalsa doesnt look like a Trivikram movie for reasons obvious to us. Of course, there are a few witty dialogues by PK, sunil and brahmanandam. But this doesnt come anywhere close to what we have seen of Trivikram. Coming fresh from the success of Athadu, there were lot more expectations. There are very less dialogues with punch (typical Trivikram style) in them. The screenplay isnt something we have seen in Athadu. There is no logic in some of the scenes and the core story.

Do not ask what the title has got to do with the movie. It is just the name of a house PK lives in. Incidentally Jalsa is also the name of the house in which Bachchans live. The coincidence ends here.

Well. now. if you want to know why you should still watch Jalsa. Here's the list

1. There is no other movie from the stars from a long time.
2. There is no other movie for the next 2 weeks.
3. Comedy in bits and pieces & a few trivikram style dialogues (my fav being "nenu kuda maargadarshi lo cheranu. oka gannu konukkunnaanu")
4. Rocking music by devi sri prasad
5. If you are a PK fan (PK at his recent best after Khushi though not as much as he was in Khushi)
6. Ileana
7. If you are a maheshbabu fan (mahesh gave background voice like Big B in lagaan)

Jalsa is an ok movie. If jalsa were to be trimmed by about 30 min, it can be made a decent movie.
