Music World and Planet M is the buzz word among young generation. But there was a time when people thronged Symphony near Metro Cinema, Esplanade for new releases. Before Durga Puja, Symphony used to be a crowded place in the hymns of puja mantras and new puja songs.
If you go to Symphony, you can't imagine how in a narrow small place they stock such a huge number of collections. Small retail shops buy music from it in bulk, and they trade in huge. Obviously their business is not largely affected with the advent of modern music selling concepts. They still able to sell plenty of cassettes, CDs and they sell it in their style. You just have to shout for an item and somebody will pick it up for you.
Symphony is synonymous with Kolkata music. If you are a follower of old Bengali movies and if in that movie the hero was a singer, then certainly you have seen Symphony on silver screen. Because the director had no way but to show that the hero's song is selling like hot cake in Symphony, as they was the sole representative of music in Kolkata.
