I'm from Pune.We have very little in the way of beer bar/cafes which play good music and serve great food at cost effective prices.And Leo's has all that and more.
It has a welcoming charm about it.It's like chilling in your own home,only your home is suddenly bustling with people (both Indian and firang),waiters have sprung from nowhere and wish to serve you (well) it's *very* smoker friendly and there's lot of beer to be had.Oh, and Shantaram(Gregory David Roberts) might be sitting in the corner (I've met him!)
The decor is very retro with framed alcohol themed posters,poster of musicians,murals of the pyramids of Egypt etc.
Ladies,be careful not to walk on past the girls' loo because then you're looking into the guys' loo and it has no door!
The downstairs opens straight into the shops on the Causeway but the upstairs has a dark,nighclubish atmosphere to it;ciggie smoke,disco lights,air conditioning,techno music,a bar with barstools,an almost dance floor and alcohol.It closes round 1 am.
On the menu are Chinese and Indian/Mughlai food and all very good.I haven't tried anything I don't like yet.ALL the prawn dishes are good *especially* the prawn pulav which is Rs 85 and will serve 2 people comfortably.The beef teriyaki is finger licking fantabulous for Rs 110.
The fish is delicious,too.chilli chicken,paneer tikka,chili beef,spring rolls,reshmi kebab, butter garlic prawns,chocolate mousse are all favourites.
Prices and portions are extremely well thought out.
You can order mugs or pitchers of beer *or* you can order a tower of beer which is a meter long plastic cylinder of beer with a tap at the end.Happy memories of looking up at that *full* beer tower......sigh.Then it emptied and we were happier still....
There is other alcohol,too.All shots cost Rs 150/shot.
Like I've mentioned,I'm from Pune.
To me Leo's is Olympus and the beer my ambrosia....
