| A Class apart - Great Gujarati Thali |
 |
 |
 |
In a recent review i wrote on Rasoee, i had mentioned about The class being a Bar and Restaurant. Well thats changed now and changed for the good :) The class is now a classic place which serves amazing Gujarati Thali. That's it and they serve only the Thali. For Lunch and for Dinner.
Situated on the Juhu tara road bang opposite to the J W Marriott, it cannot escape your eye if you walking past. The exteriors are plain white with the inscription "The Class - Exclusive Thali". Interiors are dark brown furniture, with off white walls and white lighting interspersed with the normal orange lighting - giving it a very relaxing feel. In the background you are greeted with soothing classical instrumental music which is playing really in the background. The Music is not there if you choose to ignore and have a conversation and is there when you choose to switch on and listen. Thats what i call playing in the background somewhere.
The service is polite and effective. No major frills. You are served with the traditional Jal Jeera and Chaas. The waiters then bring on Dahi Wada, malai sandwich and the farsan. The farsan comprised of Dhokla,Khandvi, kachori and Cheesey Veg. Following that was a simple salad of Carrots,Onions and Cucumber, with pickles and Coriander chutney. Yes, yes, papad in plenty on the table. The farsan also had real soft mini jalebis and you could keep popping them for as long as you dined there .....sigh! i miss them now...
After you have settled in with all of that you served with various vegetarian dishes or gravy. We were served 2 Punjabi dishes in the gravy, panner and mushroom. They alternate some of these dishes to give a larger feel to the whole Thali and not wanting to keep it too bland. Apart from that you have Aloo - matar Subji and the delicious guvar falli subji. Wah !
And hold on the traditional Gujarati kadhi and dal is served and there was special moong dal as well. You can choose between small rotis with ample ghee or without ghee, Puran Poli or bhakri.
The Subji , farsan and rotis change every day. Once you have had your fill you can jump to the mouth watering kichdi to go with the kadhi or plain rice to go with the dal. In between you can order your hearts fill of jalebis and farsan and subji and chaas!
All that for 200 bucks! The food is really fresh and tastes as it should at home:) So head on to the really Exclusive Gujarati Thali at Class... and remember to have real exclusively empty stomachs for the sumptuous food that will come your way:)!
