In 1936, D. Mehra founded a publishing house with two slim volumes of Bengali poems. Since then, Rupa & Co. never turned back. In these 70 years of long journey, their success is phenomenal. Today, it is one of the largest publishers, distributors and importers of books. Who didn’t write for Rupa? The list includes names like Ruskin Bond, Sunil Gavaskar, Jhumpa Lahiri, Indira Goswami, Bharati Mukherjee, Anita Desai, Gulzar, O.N.V Kurup, Arun Shourie, K. Natwar Singh, Keki N Daruwalla, Gayatri Devi, Anurag Mathur, Rajni Kothari, Camellia Panjabi, Vimla Patil, Mohit Sen, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Sitakant Mahapatra, Prem Shankar Jha, Swami Agnivesh, O.V. Vijayan and Sham Lal.
Their college street show room is just like a treasure for book lovers. As they are also a big distributor and importer, one can find every kind of books in this show room. Their own publications are also widely available which are much cheaper than other versions. Rupa’s publication range covers every sphere of interest including Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, plays, children's literature, biographies, self-help, religion, philosophy, culture, and business management.
Rupa is a shop which is just above the scope of such review. You cannot believe their accomplishments and collections unless you go there. It’s amazing, it’s awesome.
